LOHUM Felicitated with National Energy Efficiency Innovation Award by Minister of Power on National Energy Conservation Day 2023

Press Release

New Delhi, December 14, 2023: Union Minister of Power Shri RK Singh on National Energy Conservation Day 2023 felicitated LOHUM with India’s National Energy Efficiency Innovation Award (NEEIA), in the presence of Hon’ble President Smt. Droupadi Murmu as Chief Guest. The NEEIA 2023 was awarded to LOHUM for an industry-leading project on ‘Battery Materials Production via Recycling of Waste Batteries’ in the Transport category.

LOHUM has been awarded the NEEIA Award 2023 in the Transport category for the production of sustainable battery materials via the company’s innovative NEETM™ recycling technology. LOHUM’s zero waste process of Battery Material recovery from end-of-life batteries has led to energy savings, compared to the production of the same amount of battery raw materials via mining.

Innovation & Viability Gap Breakthroughs at LOHUM:

  • LOHUM saves 33% energy in mechanical processing of battery scrap
  • LOHUM saves 40% energy in the chemical processing and refining of battery scrap
  • Using LOHUM’s direct recycling process via which we can directly extract CAM molecule of LFP, we save 40% overall energy compared to industrial recycling processes
  • Battery manufacturing using LOHUM’s recycled materials can save 30% energy as compared to manufacturing using Virgin materials

Founder & CEO of LOHUM, Rajat Verma expressed- “We at LOHUM celebrate the NEEIA Award 2023 as a recognition of our efforts in critical materials research, which is contributing to the nation’s transition towards clean energy. The award highlights LOHUM’s progress in developing path breaking technologies around circularity and in making India a coveted destination for production of recycled high purity, high performance energy transition materials”.

LOHUM’s second life Battery Energy Storage System (BESS or ESS) applications and battery diagnostics tools also prolong battery life, thereby saving the energy that would have been used in the production of new batteries. Additionally, LOHUM has made data-driven battery asset trading, or ‘future’ battery buyback agreements possible, through the DETX™, which is facilitating partnerships across India’s EV battery and Clean Energy Transition ecosystems.

The National Energy Efficiency and Innovation Awards (NEEIA) recognize the outstanding work done by innovative minds of India in the area of Energy Efficiency. The awards are given in 3 categories – Industries, Transport and Buildings. The NEEIA awards celebrate replicability, affordability, reliability, impact on energy savings, and impact on the environment.
